6 Things to Do and See in Key West

If you’re limited on downtime but big on adventure, a 3 day get-away is just enough to do and see the unique Key West experience. Key West is adorably small (only 2 miles by 4 miles) so you can turn off your GPS and unleash yourself and give into the spontaneity of life. With everything so close, there’s plenty of hours in the day (and night) to have at least 6 peak vacation experiences you’ll treasure for years to come.

Whether you want to rev up your romance or just break loose and take in the easy vibe, a mini-vacation to Key West can be as action packed or laid-back as you want it to be. If you prefer to arrive by car, you can make it a road trip from Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and enjoy the marvelous drive through the 1000 islands of the Florida Keys. If you’re set on squeezing every ounce of time you have at your final destination then you can fly into Key West’s exotic little hometown ‘international’ airport. However you get here, be sure to allow time in your packed-in itinerary for exploring the sea as well as the land… after all you’ll be on an island!

Don’t worry about drinking and driving. You can map out your night life itinerary and walk, ride a bike, or take a pedi-cab from club to bar and experience several entertainment scenes in a night. Key West has nationally recognized night life and is equally as famous for its diversity of clubs to meet the tastes and desires of everyone. And, if you don’t want to party, you stroll around the historic neighborhoods and can go on a ghost tour and learn about the lore and legend

THE SEA:

Go on at least one sunset sail on a wooden tall ship or sailing yacht that’s docked at the Historic Seaport Harbor. And there’s nothing like taking a seaplane out 60 miles to Fort Jefferson and the Dry Tortugas to invigorate your senses. You may want to plan a day at one of Key West’s many Bahamas style beaches to swim and snorkel, or take a catamaran trip on our to the reef. You can see living coral reefs and tropical fish not far from the shore.

CULTURE:

Follow the tales of legends and visit the Hemingway House, the Mel Fisher Treasure Museum and the Custom House. Catch a live theater performance at the Red Barn or the Waterfront Theater. Every night you can watch the street performers at Key West’s Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square.

SHOPPING:

Shop unique clothing boutiques, artisan jewelers, one-of-a-kind island crafts, original art and photography, home furnishings, antiques, hand rolled cigars or funky souvenirs. Local shops are interspersed with restaurants, bars, and spontaneous street happenings on this tiny island, so you don’t really need to plan to shop. It will just ‘naturally’ happen.

Key West has so many things going, your short get-away will only be limited by your imagination. One thing is for sure, once you’ve tasted and experienced what the island has to offer, you’ll want to come back and stay much longer next time.
